2016-17 Week 14

wiaa_logo_bk_re_sep__normalThis is the week of the State Championship. This year we will be represented by Jeff Wiedoff in the 50 freestyle and the 100 Butterfly.

Everyone that swam last week at Sectionals is invited to practice this week to keep Jeff company.  Swimming alone is never that much fun. If you are getting in the water, you will be expected to participate in the practice the majority of the time and to not be a distraction.

We will run practice at 4:30 and the first two days it will go close to 2 hours, and as the week goes on that will get shorter.

Sectional Results

img_8574This could be a one sentence post.  And it would read – Great Swimming today Men!

But it is going to be much more than that. Much More.

17 of the 18 swims were season best times. 13 were lifetime best times. That is outstanding work.

Jeff moved into 3rd place in school history in the 50 freestyle and into 3rd place in the 100 Butterfly.

Alex M was previously unranked in the 50 and 100 and leaves the day now being ranked 13th in the 50 freestyle and 18th in the 100 freestyle.

And that was just a portion of it. Trevor looked sharp in his new haircut as well as the 200 and 100 Free. Dominic took charge anchoring the Medley Relay. Brian swam strong in the 50 and 100 Free. Luke went under 55 for the first time ever in the 100. Connor went his best time in his last swim in high school. Matty Ice went his best in his only swim. Alex G was brilliant in the 100 Breast.  Jack saved his best swim of his high school career for his last relay!

All of the hours of practice. All of the sessions with Coach Crosby in the weight room. All of the extra practices during Christmas break. Remember the pain and gnashing of teeth to survive.

All worth it!!  Sign me up for that again!!

Thank you Matt, Alex, Jack, and Connor. Your senior leadership and energy over the years has been great and will be missed.

But it is not done for everyone. Jeff will swim again Saturday in Madison with more detail tomorrow.

Sectional Week

right-here-right-nowThe Junior Varsity team concluded its season Saturday with a great performance.  15 of the 20 swims were season best times.  That sets a great tone leading into this week.

We have 11 that are going to swim at Sectionals.

This is a reminder that taper does not mean the void of fast stuff.  It does mean a reduction of yardage. It also means that you need to take care of yourself also.  More sleep.  More water.

You may have more energy at practice.  You may have a day where you feel sluggish at practice.  This is all part of the taper process.

Practice will be a little shorter in length as the week goes on. There will be a team dinner on Friday.  Practice will start each day at 5PM.

2016-17 Week 12

4fa287146f18de9d51ea5b81faaf29bcAfter a very successful non-rested Varsity Conference meet we head into Week 12. This is a week that we have never encountered before in the sense that the Junior Varsity will be fully rested for Saturday’s meet, while the Varsity team has two weeks until Sectionals.

There still is work to be done this week.  To be clear for the Junior Varsity….Taper does not mean easy practice.  It does mean less yardage, but the level of high-speed work we are going to do will remain the same.  Race Pace still means Race Pace.

Junior Varsity will not have dry land this week. We will work on sharpening your skills in starts, turns, and finishes.  You should try to get more rest this week at night and be mindful of the foods you are eating and stay hydrated.
